What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) identify and manage the root cause of a disease or disorder, rather than just its symptoms, with a particular emphasis on prevention and health maintenance. Naturopathic medicine involves a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's health history and physical examination results. Treatments often incorporate naturally occurring substances, minimally invasive methods, and the promotion of natural healing. Illness prevention and wellness optimization occur through the "pillars of health" which include: stress reduction, balancing hormones, sleep hygeine, proper nutrition and lifestyle modifications. NDs are trained in a variety of modalities and techniques that are tailored to the specific needs of each patient, such as clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture and Asian medicine, lifestyle counselling and physical treatments. NDs offer alternative medical solutions to conventional approaches, as well as treatments that can work in conjunction with current medical prescriptions.
